Alan Dempsey
Alan is the founding director of Nex. He is a chartered architect in the UK and has previously worked with Farjadi Architects, OCEAN and most recently as a project director with Future Systems. His experience in leading the design and delivery of projects covers multiple sectors including infrastructure, commercial offices, retail, residential, art and public buildings, ranging in value from £100K to £40 million.
Alan studied at the Dublin Institute of Technology, Universidad de los Andes, Bogota and the Design Research Lab at the Architectural Association in London, where he graduated with a thesis distinction in 2002. He was a Unit Tutor at the AA until 2005, and is currently a Director of the FAB Research programme there, which facilitates research on the emerging use of digital fabrication in innovative forms of design practice.
He has been an invited critic at universities in the UK and Europe, and his work has been widely published in the US, Europe and Asia, most recently being selected to represent the UK at the 2008 Beijing Architecture Biennale. In 2008, he was selected by the AA as one of 12 esteemed graduates from 10 years of the Design Research Lab, and was also recently selected by the British Council as one of the six most significant Design Entrepreneurs in the UK.

Paul Loh
Paul has over eight years of practice experience prior to joining Nex. He has previously worked with Dr. Kenneth Yeang, Zaha Hadid Architects, Fletcher Priest Architects, and most recently for MacCormac Jamieson Prichard Architects. His design experience ranges from large scale master planning for Coventry City Council through to interactive interiors for Sony Play station and Vodafone, to a £35 million new student accommodation project for St John's College in Oxford.
Educated in Australia (University of Melbourne) and London, Paul gained his Diploma in Architecture at the University of East London with Distinction in Design before joining the Architecture Association, Design Research Laboratory in 2000; graduating with distinction in Design thesis. His continued academic research focuses on complex geometry and its spatial and ergonomic effects in built forms. Through his leadership of a research unit at the University of East London, where he was the unit master since 2006, he continues to push the boundaries of computational geometry and its fabrication potential.
His expertese lies in the materialization of projects with innovative technical and material solutions through prototyping and testing. He believes that every project should be underpinned with a strong design strategy and clarity from concept to its realisation that enable its design development to be coherent so as to deliver a client’s vision and aspiration.
