Design Fabrication Exhibition

Fostering collaboration and industry change. Designing Fabrication is an exhibition that presents the work of the AA|FAB Research Initiative - a research programme to facilitate new research into emerging digital design and fabrication.

The aim of the initiative is to act as an agency to foster interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration. The show presented the work of twenty four emerging architects from around the world through drawings, images, models and full scale prototypes, and included eight award winning projects from the research programme.

Located in a former industrial warehouse in Shoreditch during the 2009 London Design Festival, the exhibition design employed a sequence of bespoke lightweight timber frame units suspended from the roof in sequence through the space. In keeping with the Initiative’s key principles, the project was digitally designed and manufactured. The FAB Research Initiative continued with a curated public lecture series in 2013/14 at the Architectural Association hosting leading international practices.
