Library & Archive Design

Library & Archive Design

Library and Archive design is a specialised expertise that requires a deep understanding of the evolving needs of modern libraries and the care of collections. We design inspiring and functional library spaces that serve as dynamic hubs of knowledge, learning, and centre points for communities. Our Library and Archive design approach combines innovation, accessibility, and sustainability to create environments that foster exploration, research, and study.

Our designs prioritise the user experience and flexibility, incorporating adaptable layouts that accommodate everything from individual study areas to interactive zones for group work. By providing a layered variety of spaces and storage options, we have met the exacting needs of clients to store large amounts of various materials and provide spaces to study and research in private, small groups, or as part of a larger team

The power of architecture in research and learning spaces lies not only in the ability to provide a practical series of spaces but also in its capacity to evoke emotion and stimulate curiosity and inspiration. Through careful selection of materials, lighting, and spatial arrangements, we have created spaces that inspire and engage visitors. Our designs integrate energy-efficient systems, passive design strategies, and sustainable materials; optimising thermal performance, utilising renewable energy sources, and incorporating efficient lighting and HVAC systems, we create environmentally friendly designs which work to our client’s budgets.

Our goal is to go beyond functional spaces, delivering libraries that empower individuals, enrich communities, and foster a love for knowledge and learning. We are proud to be involved in the current renovation of Exeter College Library at Oxford University and the National Archive at the RAF Museum in Hendon. In addition to these notable projects, our team led the transformation of the Architectural Association Bookshop, designed to inspire both architectural enthusiasts and the wider public.
