Powerscourt Town Centre

A distinctive retail experience becomes a new gathering space in the city by strengthening urban routes and simplifying circulation.

Powerscourt is a distinctive example of specialty retail design. Based in a listed 18th Century townhouse, a bespoke collection of boutique goods, jewellery, art, and fine dining lends itself to a context not usually associated with retail.

Simplifying and redesigning the urban route and internal circulation was the first step in improving user experience. The original courtyard, compromised by successive alterations, is transformed into a dramatic light-dappled urban space that accommodates a changing programme of day and evening events. The new roof and piano nobile transform the courtyard, improve environmental performance, and restore the original classical order of the relationship to the main house.
